What a challenging statement Jeremiah makes.

Scanning through social media is heart-wrenching. We can read endless examples where people find fault with someone who is struggling. Perhaps their mean-spirited comments make them feel superior to others, but that feeling of superiority only comes from their own heart’s deceit.

Lies told about someone in a leadership capacity often feed other lies in a negative spiral. The lies create an atmosphere of not knowing what the truth might be, deceiving the hearts of many.

The list of deceptions goes on and on. We can find thousands of examples of how deceit hurts those around us.

Recently, a long-time friend came to visit us with their two children. Eventually, the topic turned to politics. Soon, the gentlemen reached behind his back and pulled out a pistol, waving it in the air, declaring that this is how he would deal with our world’s problems!

These examples illustrate how our minds follow our hearts. When our hearts become bitter and calloused, our minds react accordingly.

God can soften the hardened hearts of our world. Christ’s love can give us a greater understanding of what our world needs. Our minds follow God’s love when Christ is in our hearts. Then, gentleness and compassion can create a path to a better world.
