The modern parable is told of an accountant who asked a Christian entrepreneur to fill out a tax preparation sheet.
The entrepreneur replied, “My list of assets is extensive.”
The accountant said, “Don’t worry. I know how to pay the least amount of taxes.”
The entrepreneur’s list included the following:
I have eternal life
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
I have a beautiful house in heaven
John 14:2
In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.
I have utter peace
Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
I have indescribable joy
1 Peter 1:8
Whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory.
I enjoy unchanging love forever
1 Corinthians 13:8
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.
My Lord is my close friend
John 15:13-16
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
I can sing praises even in the night
Psalm 42:8
The LORD will command his loving kindness in the daytime. In the night his song shall be with me: a prayer to the God of my life.
A crown of life is ready for me
James 1:12
Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.
I live with my Savior, Jesus Christ, who provides everything I need
Philippians 4:19
My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
I have hope and a future in God
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.”
