Worship isn’t always easy.

Sometimes our lives are so busy that taking a moment of quiet reflection might only happen in the bathroom, if we are even granted that!

But I can’t think of any story of worship that parallels that of the magi. Some speculate that the “wise men” came from a country far away, leaving the comfort of living quarters they likely enjoyed as respected advisors to their leader, spending great sums to fund their travel and their gifts, sacrificing months of time, since such a voyage likely covered many miles, and risking their health and safety as well.

The Bible says that by the time the wise men arrived, Jesus’ family was established in a home. Preparing to worship Jesus couldn’t have been easy for them.

Perhaps worship isn’t easy at your house either, getting kids out of bed and motivated to go to church, singing or playing the Christian radio station without complaints, motivating your spouse to join you, convincing yourself that taking some time to worship is better than getting to that long list of things you have to do.

But sometimes, what seems beyond logic is, in fact, what is wisest. Perhaps the magi weren’t wise because they were learned, but because of their unwavering choice to worship Jesus regardless of the rocky road ahead.
