Jesus’ crucifixion is the ultimate act in emptying Himself — unto death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:8). The death of Christ on the cross opened wide the door of salvation. Whoever believes in Him will have eternal life (John 3:16).
So, for Christians, Christ’s cross is the “power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18). The cross of Jesus will shine forever as a memorial symbol of God’s love for us. And the real meaning of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross will be a subject that all the saints will study for eternity.
Jesus took his cross to Golgotha and He was crucified with two others
He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called “The Place of a Skull”, which is called in Hebrew, “Golgotha”, where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.
Christ died on the cross for my sins
But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.
The cross of Jesus, for me, is the power of God
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Good News—not in wisdom of words, so that the cross of Christ wouldn’t be made void. For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
The cost of discipleship: to deny myself, take up the cross, and follow Jesus
He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
I have been crucified with Christ, so now I live with Him
I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.
Christ endured the cross for the joy the future will bring
Looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
If I do not bear my cross, I cannot be Jesus’ disciple
Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.
Christ took human form, humbling himself to die a gruesome death
And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.
I can boast of nothing except what Jesus Christ did for me on the cross
But far be it from me to boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Jesus bore my sins on the cross
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds. For you were going astray like sheep; but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
