God credits His winning battle to that of a mild-mannered creature, a lamb.

God’s army commander isn’t just any lamb. In some ways, Jesus is what could be called a “bummer lamb.”

In a flock of 3,000, a handful of bummers are born. They are the rejects, raised without the care of an ewe. They may have a birth defect that caused them to be rejected, their mother may be too sick to nurse them, or she may have died. Regardless, bummer lambs require constant care from their shepherd.

Jesus was raised by loving, God-fearing parents, but as an adult He became the bummer lamb of the world. He was betrayed by one of His closest friends. Nearly all the others scattered at His arrest. Then, culture misunderstood Him and submitted Him to the final rejection, murder.

But Jesus won God’s ultimate battle by being a lamb.

He fought rejection by turning the other cheek, by being silent. He fought death by submitting to it, by forgiving those that caused it and then showcasing His power to rise above it.

A lamb was the perfect captain for this fight. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control conquered all! Jesus won with these; so can we!
