I have learned the hard way that some of the most seemingly generous and pleasant people can behave quite differently in different circumstances.

Their attitude might vary due to a relationship rift, economic shift, or other factors. They might say one thing, or promise some benefit, but then change their minds and do something completely different.

Sometimes the variableness I’ve experienced is in the area of service. In the past, I have tended to equate friendly service to business integrity. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that not all friendly, smiling sales people are trustworthy.

James 1:17 says that everything good that comes to me comes from God — a God who gives perfect gifts. A God who only has my interests at heart. A God who never changes His mind about anything, including His love for me! What a relief that there is stability in our gift-giving God.

The goodness that propels all gifts comes from God’s movement on individual hearts. He is the One who sees, who knows and who cares about meeting my every need. Every gift He gives me is both good and perfect, shedding some of His divine light in this dark world.
