The moment I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I am His disciple. That means I am a follower of Christ.
As a disciple, I imitate Christ. Through Christ-centered Bible verses, I share my Savior with others. Thus, I make another disciple who thankfully follows Jesus. Then I help that disciple to make other disciples.
For the disciple, Jesus Christ is everything. We live with joy a Christ-centered life, praising God and giving glory to Him.
Jesus gives his disciples authority
He called to himself his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these. The first, Simon, who is called Peter; Andrew, his brother; James the son of Zebedee; John, his brother; Philip; Bartholomew; Thomas; Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; Lebbaeus, who was also called Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
Jesus’ disciples crowd around Him
He came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
“Christian” is another word for “disciple”
When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Those healed by Jesus consider themselves His disciples
He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?” They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.”
Christ’s great commission to all His disciples: make more disciples
But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had sent them. When they saw him, they bowed down to him; but some doubted. Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
As a disciple, I know Jesus’ truth will set me free
Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
As a disciple, I am willing to stop what I am currently doing to follow Jesus
He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers for men.” They immediately left their nets and followed him.
A disciple is God’s unique instrument, honored to do good works for Christ
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor. If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master’s use, prepared for every good work.
A disciple, when trained, imitates Christ
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.
As a disciple, I deny myself and take up my cross each day and follow Christ
He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
As a disciple, I love only Jesus above all others, even my own life
Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them, “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.”
As a disciple, I love Jesus more than any other person
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn’t worthy of me.
As a disciple, I willingly take up my cross
He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me.
As a disciple, I forsake everything I have, then choose Jesus to be my everything
So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.
As a disciple, I am an imitator of God
Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. Walk in love, even as Christ also loved us, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
As a disciple, I continuously self-examine to see whether I am keeping my faith in Christ
Examine your own selves, whether you are in the faith. Test your own selves. Or don’t you know about your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
