My wife has liver disease.

It has been over fifteen years since she first found out about her condition.

Years ago, a physician prescribed a medication that crystalized in her lymph nodes, causing the disease she now has. The reality of this condition caused us all to be scared of what might happen. Is she going to die? How long is she going to live? Will she suffer? Oh, it seemed like we were living in a world we did not deserve.

Some people chose to stay away from us as our fear turned into reality and the reality of it all turned into more fear.

But the promise of this scripture brings everything into a proper focus and a new reality!

Life’s ups and downs are not the focus we should accept as the final reality. No matter what happens, the promise of life is at hand.

Knowing that God has given us Jesus Christ our Lord, who paid our price and died our death, gives us a new perspective, a new focus, and a profound purpose in my wife’s battle with this terrible disease.

She continues to do the things she loves: cooking for our family and teaching the children at church. We know in the end — no matter when it comes — God will be there.
