My department at work was downsizing and my supervisor wanted my slot for a friend.

Coworkers had fled to other departments, some even accepting lesser paying positions. It baffled them that I remained behind.

To be honest, I was baffled as well. Why were my prayers to flee unanswered? I was becoming nervous but was determined to move only when and where the Lord led. However, He had not yet opened any doors, and my options were fading.

Friends urged me to not stay on a sinking ship. Once the department collapsed completely, if I had not found another position, I’d be unemployed. Yet, Isaiah 40:28-29 promised peace, offering courage in place of my trembling anxieties. “God’s got this,” it said. He had my best interests at heart. I could relax.

As it turns out, He did!

Somehow, a plan was worked out that allowed the department to remain open. Since my former colleagues could not abandon the lower ranked jobs they had grabbed in their panic, I was the senior employee in place to train the newcomers hired in from outside. Certainly, the Lord had faithfully elevated and strengthened me even in my weakness.

Take courage! God’s promises are sure. He provides all the understanding, power, and strength we could ever need.
