So many things have value determined on the price that they can be labeled with. At the simplest level, the value comes from what someone is willing to pay.

We don’t like to think of ourselves as having a price tag, but the truth is we do. In fact, our price tag is higher than anything else in history.

In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul says we were bought at a price. That price was the life of God Himself. Nothing is more valuable, and yet that is exactly what God chose to pay to redeem us.

We are also told in this passage that we belong to God as a temple for His Holy Spirit. We were not bought so that we would remain as we are. Rather, we were bought so we could be transformed and be the dwelling place of God.

In the Old Testament, the temple existed so God could draw near to His people. In the New Testament, God draws even nearer. He became human in Jesus, so that through His death, He might buy us back from the hold Satan has on us.

This action also allowed Him to then send His Holy Spirit to actually dwell within those who accept Him, thus becoming His temples. No longer do we belong to ourselves or to Satan; we belong to God.
