Rock crumbled and fell in the water below as my feet lost their anchor point.

I braced my arms against the rock on either side of me and tried to slow my heart rate. I didn’t fall; I was fine. But I was stuck, suspended in an underground canyon. There were no good foot or handholds in front of me.

One of my students, Kinotis, hurried behind me. He shoved my foot against the wall, held it there, and told me to climb forward. That help was exactly what I needed to succeed.

In our spiritual lives, we too are stuck. We cannot gain the victory over death and sin by ourselves.

When humanity chose to eat the fruit, to have a knowledge of good and evil, we fell to sin. Our hearts were injured. The devil gained access to us and became the ruler of this earth for the time.

However, Jesus came and lived a sinless life, gaining victory over the devil and his rule.

In Christ, God extends the offer of this victory over sin and death. We lived under the sentence of death, but accepting Christ gives victory over that sentence that the devil would have you remain in.
