All the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.
When I was a child, and when my own kids were small, we sang a song at church called, “Hallelujah: Praise Ye, the Lord.”
One side of the room sang the “hallelujah’s” and the other side sang, “Praise ye, the Lord!” Often, it was more of a shouting match than anything, but that was the fun of it. And oh, the n-o-i-s-e we raised up in praise!
Singing and shouting to the Lord with joy isn’t just for kids, though. We grownups have so much to be joyful about.
God is so very good and is such a giver of blessings to each and every one of us.
Of course, praising God doesn’t mean you need to yell or sing at the top of your lungs, because unless you’re singing “Hallelujah: Praise ye the Lord,” it’s not about how loudly you can sing or shout. It’s about boldly and passionately letting everyone around you know about the “joy, joy, joy, joy” down in your heart. Then, even if you whisper, the whole earth will shake with the sound of your praise.
What sounds best express my joy for the Lord?
Dear God, You continually give me so many reasons to be joyful. You are good — far better than I deserve. Your love amazes me. Your ways are wonderful. Thank You for being the unending source of my joy. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
