I love going to a local restaurant and having coffee and conversation. I usually sit at the table with another pastor and several other guys.

One person loved to try to stump the other pastor on religious questions.

Once he asked, “How do you know there is a God?”

The pastor responded, “Have you ever seen a child that just did not like someone?”

The person responded; “Yes. You should trust the child’s intuition.”

The pastor asked, “Did your mother have an instinct about her, sometimes sensing something might be wrong?”

“Yes,” the man responded, “but what does that have to do with proving there is a God?”

The pastor said, “I had those feelings when I gave my life to Jesus Christ and repented and asked for forgiveness. I felt like a child who knew I could trust there was a God, and I had the gut feeling of a mother when I gave my life the Jesus Christ.”

I saw this person’s heart soften over time. He gradually went from trying to stump the pastor to ask questions about religion and life itself.

I recently had a heart attack and had a stent implanted. When I went to the coffee shop after surgery, the person said; “God bless you, Pastor Dave,” as I sat down. What a transformation. What a blessing!
