I checked my watch one last time as I drained the last of my chai latte. An hour had gone by and my friend had not shown up. We had agreed to meet to catch up with each other, but the time had passed and she hadn’t arrived.

Later, I found out something had come up she had to deal with and her phone had died, but in that moment of waiting I felt lonely, let down, and forgotten.

This was a small matter, but it is representative of a reality of our lives. We often let other people down, whether it be intentional or not.

If we are being really honest, there are times that we feel let down by God as well. You know those moments where God didn’t show up in the way you thought He would. In these moments we can hold to His promise to us in Joshua 1:5, “I will not fail you nor forsake you.”

It isn’t always easy to see how God is with us in certain situations, but I often find that later, I can look to my past and see how God was with me every step of the way. When we cling to His promises and put our trust in Him, we can be sure that He will come through on His Word.
