Putting God First

by Katelyn Molloy

2 Peter 3:17-18

You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Balance.

With all the stresses of life, it can be difficult to achieve our goals.

Thankfully, we don’t have to face these stresses alone. God promises to be with us, and with His guidance we can find balance.

But He can’t guide us if we don’t spend time with Him.

A pastor once preached on the importance of spending time with God every day. After his sermon, a member from the church approached him, and began sorrowfully explaining how busy he was. He wanted to spend time with God, but with the demands of each day he just couldn’t find a way to fit Him into his schedule.

The pastor listened patiently, then told him to just try a small devotion in the morning for a week and see what happened. The member begrudgingly agreed and shuffled away.

The next week, he approached the pastor again, this time much more excited. “It worked!” he announced.

“What worked?”

“The devotions. I thought my schedule would be ruined, but ever since I started doing them, I’ve had more time than ever before!”

How valuable it is to know God. As the church member learned, God brings a balance to even the busiest of lives. He can bring a balance to your life too. Why not spend some time with Him today?

Reflection

Is God a priority in my life? What area of my life tends to tip things out of balance? How can relying more fully on God remedy the situation?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, I want to grow in Your grace, peace, and knowledge. Please balance my life and help me put You first in all things. In Your name I pray, Amen.
