Jesus is the Way

John 10:7-10
Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture. The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.”
Some of my favorite lessons come from animals.
I have a dog whom God has used to show me plenty of things about myself and our relationship. One such lesson was about listening for His voice.
My dog has gone through some fantastic training and is very obedient. She listens to most people that she knows, but she particularly listens to me, her master. When she hears my voice calling, she knows that it is me and she doesn’t hesitate to come. She also knows that I am her security. With me she will have everything she needs supplied to her.
Similarly, in John 10:7-10, we are told that we are to respond to Jesus when He calls.
As we grow in relationship with Him, we learn to recognize His voice, obeying it rather than the other voices around us. We also learn the security we have in Him. He is “the door” by which we are saved.
We try so many different ways to fix or do things ourselves, even trying to work our way to our own salvation. Yet Jesus says that He is the way. By accepting His sacrifice, building our relationship with Him, and listening for His voice, we can enter into the abundant life He wants to give us.
Reflection
When did I last hear Jesus’ voice? How did I recognize it? How have I experienced abundant life with Jesus?
Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for sending Jesus to die for me and to be the door into abundant life. Help me to always listen for and recognize Your voice. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
