Oskar Schindler was far from perfect.

He had several affairs. He struggled through alcoholism. Wealth was his primary concern.

However, in the fall of 1941, he witnessed a horrific extermination of a Jewish ghetto that changed his heart. Schindler made it his goal to secure life for as many Jewish people as he could, whatever he lost, whatever it took. He refused to let anyone snatch “his children” from his hands.

Using bribery and, ultimately, every bit of his fortune, Schindler offered safe work environments, religious freedom, and life to 1,200 Jews. He bought their safety by employing them in his factories, bribing authorities to let them remain under his care, and chasing down those that were taken from him, convincing those in charge to give them back.

Schindler today is credited with saving more Jewish people than any other person during the era of the Nazis.

Our God is perfect. He, too, holds His children in His hands.

We can put ourselves in the safety of His grip if we choose. No disease, no hardship, no abusive government, no trouble of this world can snatch us out of His care. When we are His, “He works all things together for good” (Romans 8:28). We can trust Him.
