Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Pregnancy is in a sense body-rental. Month by month this tiny renter doubles your property value, improves your property’s character, all while slowly destroying your property’s aesthetics. Then, nine months into your rental contract, your little renter abruptly takes over your whole house and your heart.
Unlike babies, God doesn’t rent. He’s either owns a space or He doesn’t. He has put out an offer for everyone, whether a body has been trashed and is on the brink of foreclosure or is fully upgraded and meticulously cared for. God has offered more than full price for each. Once His Spirit moves in, instead of wearing you down, He begins to renovate and renew. He takes over your security, your pest control, your home repairs. He is there in the chaos with you, working to bring good out of it all, and He is there the same when we trash our minds or our bodies.
How can we be a good host for an incredible guest? Perhaps it’s similar to being a good pregnant woman. There is an overwhelming amount of advice for her. But what it all really comes down to is love. We can set aside the list of life rules and meditate on loving God. Conjure up great love, and you will be a great host.
