The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Today’s verse about flourishing palm trees reminds me of the tall palm trees I saw in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.
There, the palm trees bordered the streets. They were so tall, when you looked at the top, you saw only palm trees against a background of blue sky and white clouds.
Of course, not all palm trees have coconuts, but all coconuts come from palm trees. I will never forget drinking the young coconut juice or the snow-white skin inside the coconut.
The word “flourish” means “to be vigorous and to prosper richly.” These are both things God desires us to do with His help.
People in Bible times valued the palm for its fruit and the cedar for its wood. Both trees were appreciated for their beauty, and both trees can survive for many years.
God, who created the palm and cedar trees, wants you to live like them, to make your life grow in Christ as tall as palm trees in Costa Rica.
Give others the pure spiritual juice and let the delicious Bread of Life enrich them. Then they, too, will find their faith in Jesus flourishes, transforming their entire lives to glorify God.
What must I do to flourish as God wants me to?
Creator God, Help me to flourish like a palm tree. Let me pass Your blessing on to others. I praise You always. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
