Overwhelmed With Passion

by Heather Tietz

Acts 4:19-20

But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves, for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard.”

Harriet Tubman has been called the American Moses.

For years, Tubman’s passion for justice drove her to return to slave territory again and again. Courageously, she led hundreds of enslaved African Americans to freedom.

Her passion gave her courage.

Noah had a passion to obey God. His passion helped him endure decades of laboring over a giant ark. It guarded his heart against the humiliating remarks of godless neighbors.

Young David’s passion drove him to confront the giant Philistine who mocked his God. Passion enabled David to fight courageously with nothing but his slingshot and his faith.

Moses was initially afraid when God called on him. But as he got to know the great God of his ancestors, his trust grew to boldness. God gave him the passion to bring the Jewish people out of slavery. Moses boldly confronted Pharaoh, time and again.

The apostle Paul had a passion for righteousness. Once he met Jesus, his passion sent him courageously swimming from shipwrecked boats, braving poisonous snake bites, singing in dreary prisons, and writing encouraging letters, all to his very end.

Whether you are called to rescue, build, fight, or simply tell others about Jesus, God can ignite a passion in you that will give you the courage to follow where He leads.

Reflection

What in life do I find myself most passionate about? What aspect of my faith do I find myself most passionate about? Do I have a passion for God as strong as my passion for other things or other people?

Prayer

Dear God, Please give me a passion for those things You’ve created me to do for You. Help me to bravely move forward. Let my actions and my words be full of love. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
