As a child, I never watched one episode of Sunday night television.

Why? Because I was at church.

Church remains an integral part of my life. Even when I had four children ranging from newborn to twelve, in addition to cows to milk and sheep to feed, we were never late for church.

Today’s verse makes it clear that assembling together with God’s family is to be a priority. It should be the rule, not the exception. It should be our desire, done out of willing obedience — not drudgery done out of guilt.

When we assemble with each other, we get to know one another, making fellowship, service, accountability, and encouragement more natural — the way God intends for it to be. When we assemble together, we can worship God as a family, teach those who need teaching, and learn from those who are wiser in the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord.

I hope you genuinely enjoy worshiping, learning, and serving with your church family. Assembling together is essential for spiritual growth and maturity. Bear in mind, when something is assembled, it’s put together, it’s not just in the general vicinity with other parts.

Most of all, assembling together pleases God, and that, remember, is the whole duty of humanity.
