God Fights Your Battles

by Heather Tietz

Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him.

When David said that God was his strength and his shield, he meant it!

He was just a teen and an untrained fighter when he battled the Philistine giant. He hadn’t yet grown into his full strength. He had no training with weapons of war. But what he had, God used mightily. David’s little stone struck Goliath down with the force of a boulder.

David stepped out in faith, but God fought the battle. As David’s strength and shield, He was surely the reason for his perfect aim!

“Vengeance is mine,“ reads Deuteronomy 32:35. “The battle is the Lord’s,” says 2 Chronicles 20:15.

We were not created for fighting. Jesus tells us to love our enemies, to turn the other cheek, to hand over our cloak and our shirt, to return love for hate. That is our everyday job.

God’s job is to care for us, protect us, and fight for us. He “prepares a table for me in the presence of my enemies” (Psalm 23:5).

He is watching. God is planning. He will convict the guilty. He will knock down those who break His laws.

Let God fight your battles. His stones are bigger. His justice is more right. Trust Him to strengthen you in the meantime. You will be helped!

Reflection

How has God personally protected me? In what circumstance did I have unnatural strength when facing an enemy of God?

Prayer

Dear God, You have already won every battle, destroyed every foe. Thank You for providing all the strength I could ever need and shielding me from every danger I cannot overcome. I love You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
