Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is. Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
1 John 3:2-3
An unwrapped present can never be fully enjoyed.
Sure, there’s some joy in anticipation, where you wonder what a present could be. But, you can’t fully celebrate a gift until the wrappings are removed and you can see it for what it is.
As followers of Christ, we start out as unwrapped presents. We’ve received the gift of adoption in God’s family. We ourselves then, through the power and character of Christ, can become a gift to those in need.
But, if we still remain wrapped in the flashy paper and ribbons of our former life, no one can enjoy the gift of our life, service, and love.
John says that one day we’ll be fully seen for who we are in Christ. Jesus Himself will be unwrapped in His glory, and in seeing Him for who He is, we will be unwrapped, too.
But in the meantime, the more you see Him, the more you are like Him. Look to see the character of Jesus daily, glorify Him in all that you do, and the world can enjoy the gift God has made you to be.
