Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him just as he is. Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
A still-wrapped present can never be fully enjoyed.
Sure, there’s some joy in anticipation, where you wonder what a present could be. But you can’t fully celebrate a gift until the wrappings are removed and you can see it for what it is.
As followers of Christ, we start out as tightly wrapped presents. We’ve received the gift of adoption into God’s family. We ourselves then, through the power and character of Christ, can become a gift to those in need.
But, if we still remain wrapped in the flashy paper and ribbons of our former life, no one can enjoy the gift of our life, service, and love.
John says that one day we will be fully seen for who we are in Christ. Jesus Himself will be unwrapped in His glory, and in seeing Him for who He is, we will be unwrapped, too.
In the meantime, the more you see Him, the more you become like Him (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Look to see the character of Jesus daily. Glorify Him in all that you do so the world can enjoy the gift God has made you to be.
What parts of Christ’s character have I yet to explore? How has this lack of exploration affected how much I reflect His character to others?
Dear Heavenly Savior, Help me to see You more fully and more completely. As I look to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2), may I become changed just by beholding Him. Thank You for so generously calling me Your child. In Jesus’ dear name I pray, Amen.
