Above all, taking up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints.
Faith is trust in God; believing He loves you, knows best what is for you, and always be there for you. Faith is choosing to do things His way instead of yours. Faith is trusting in His wisdom not yours. Faith is depending on His strength instead of your weakness and His righteousness instead of your sinful nature. Faith enables you to receive God’s gifts (blessings and promises).
Faith is a process—one that comes with practice. In order to grow your faith you have to let God show you who He is and what He can do. In order to grow your faith you have to study God’s Word, the Bible, in order to understand God’s wisdom, His plan, and the promises He makes.
Faith is a shield from temptation and an inspiration to purity and truth because no other influence can equal the presence of God. “Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.” God is “pure and cannot stand the sight of evil” (Hebrews 4:13, Habakkuk 1:13 NLT).
Prayer: Father, help me to cherish such a shield of faith so that I can overcome all temptations. Amen.
