“The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be still.”
An estimated 10,000 grizzlies roamed California’s wilderness before Europeans arrived.
Today, there are no more. In fact, only about 1,000 grizzly bears wander the lower forty-eight states at all. While I adore nature and believe God has life lessons to teach through it, I am also relieved that I don’t have to prepare myself for an oncoming grizzly during my regular day.
A grizzly is built to win wars. Weighing three to four hundred pounds, with claws up to four inches long, their bite is strong enough to crush a bowling ball!
Because grizzlies battle in defense, the best way to survive an attack from a grizzly, if you ever come in contact with one, is not to fight at all. Playing dead, curling up, and laying still, experts say, is your best bet. In other words, not fighting is the way to win.
When Moses told God’s people to “be still,” Pharaoh’s army, like a herd of angry grizzlies, was charging at them. But God swooped in for the fight, pushing back the Red Sea. He laid out a path to safety. The Israelites didn’t have to fight at all.
God will always be bigger and stronger than any enemy who comes near His people.
Are you battling a grizzly? Lay down your human-made weapons and give the fight to God.
What grizzly bear in my life do I need to be still around? How can I give this particular battle to God?
Dear God, I give my battles to You. Please keep me safe in Your arms and show me how to be still. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.
