A Verse a Day

by Darla Noble

Psalm 90:12, 14

So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Ralph lives the words of today’s verses better than anyone I know.

He is a man who truly seeks to have a heart and mind of wisdom — Godly wisdom. One of the ways he does this is by memorizing a Bible verse a day. Just one verse. He says the verse over and over throughout the day, as well as the verses from the previous days. So far, Ralph has memorized all four Gospels and the book of Acts!

Yes, it takes a while each day to recite what he has memorized, but he does it while walking — either outside or on his treadmill. You might say he is exercising his body, soul, and mind all at the same time.

What Ralph is doing is great, but it’s not the only way to grow in the wisdom of God.

You can grow a heart of wisdom and be glad in all your days when you read the Bible, spend time in prayer, worship, and service to Him and others. In other words, it’s not how you do it, but that you do it that matters.

Reflection

How does spending time with God every day make me glad? What does it mean to “gain a heart of wisdom?”

Prayer

Loving God, I want to know You fully and intimately. Help me grow in wisdom. Help me experience the joy that comes from being completely Yours. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
