Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.
Madison, Anna’s nine-year-old daughter, is a tomboy through and through.
There are only one or two dresses in her closet for those occasions when nothing else will do. The problem arose, however, when Madison didn’t think her aunt’s wedding was one of those special occasions.
After trying to reason with Madison, Anna finally said, “This day isn’t about you or what you want. This is your aunt’s special day and you are going to do everything you can to help make that happen — and dressing appropriately is one of those things.”
The same thing can be said about how you and I present ourselves to God.
We might not always agree with the way God wants us to present ourselves in service or when responding to others, but the truth of the matter is: It’s not about us. It’s about God and pleasing Him because He is holy and He deserves our very best all the time.
What attitudes, habits, or actions are you “wearing” that are not pleasing to God? Take definitive action today to change — to “dress” your spirit for the occasion of serving Him.
What are my talents and abilities? How can I use them to serve God and others?
Dear Lord, Please forgive me for the times I have failed to sacrifice anything for You. Please cleanse me, both inside and out. May my life be holy and acceptable to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
