Bible’s Most Central Theme

by Pastor Ken

Hear, Israel: the LORD is our God; the LORD is one: and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Today’s verses are known as the shema. Shema is the Hebrew word for ‘listen,’ which is exactly what these verses are telling us to do. But when you think about it, the word shema could be what we are supposed to do with the entire Bible. Listening is also the Bible’s most central theme.

The verse then goes on to tell us how to listen—with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. The beauty of it all is that when you listen with your heart, soul, and might, you will love God in the very same way! Your desires, your thoughts, your plans, and your daily life will be a testimony of God’s power, love, and grace.

There is only one path that leads to true happiness—the path that follows God in faithful obedience in all things. When you love God with your entire being you will be filled with the joy we all long for but cannot find anywhere else.

Prayer: God, help me to love You with my whole being and glorify You in all I do. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
