For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
When I was little, I asked my mom if I could do something and she said no.
Obviously, I was upset by this unexpected answer and I expressed my disappointment the only way I knew how; I cried. In fact, I sobbed!
Doing this thing was so important to me at the time that I felt I couldn’t live without it.
I remember telling my mother in a tear-soaked voice that I would never be happy again. It sounds a little outrageous thinking back to it, but at the moment I really thought I would never feel happiness again!
Isn’t that how sadness works? It clouds the future, making you think that you’ll always feel this way.
It’s during the sad moments of our lives; when we feel as if there is no way out, that we need to remind ourselves of today’s verse. That “weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.”
What a wonderful promise! The next time you feel angry or sad about something unpleasant, remember this verse. Remind yourself that God holds you in His hands and showers His favor on you throughout your lifetime. He will see you through this.
When I am overwhelmed in a night of spiritual or emotional sadness, how can I remind myself of the fact that joy comes in the morning?
Dear Loving God, Thank You so much for everything You do for me. Thank You for the fact that sadness doesn’t last forever and that “joy comes in the morning.” Please remind me of this the next time I’m feeling overwhelmed. In Jesus’ holy name I pray, Amen.
