In the village of Cana, the wedding was in full swing. It had lasted for several days — and would last several more.

Then the wine ran out.

Nothing kills a party like hungry or thirsty people! Mary, Jesus’ mother, knew this when she approached her son and asked Him to do something to help. “Do whatever He tells you,” Mary told the servants.

Always eager to honor His mother, Jesus said, “Fill the waterpots with water.”

So, workers filled six stone water jars, each holding 20 or 30 gallons, to the brim.

“Dip some out and take it to the ruler of the feast,” Jesus instructed.

Imagine the servants’ concern! But they did as He told them.

The ruler tasted what they served him and declared “What a great wine it is! Usually, a host serves the most expensive wine at the beginning of the feast. Why does this host save the best for last?”

It was the first miracle Jesus performed.

When you have anything to celebrate, He wants you to invite Him to celebrate with you. If you follow Mary’s guidance and “do as He tells you,” He has blessings in store for you, too!
