Person of Peace

by Pastor Ken

Psalm 37:37

Mark the perfect man, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace.

Who is a person of peace?

Have you ever been around someone who is obviously at peace with their life and surroundings — even when everything around them isn’t peaceful? How do you feel when you are with them?

You can be that kind of person and have that kind of peace. You can when you put yourself in the presence of Jesus.

One of the best ways to do this is to read the Gospels, which are the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Reading the words Jesus Himself spoke is comforting, calming, and peaceful. His words ARE peace.

The other day, while I walked in nature, I listened to a recording of the Gospel of John. I imagined myself in the Gospel story. I could hear Jesus saying “Throw your net on the right side” (John 21:6).

In my mind’s eye, I pictured a catch of over a hundred fifty fish. I envisioned Peter jumping into the water and hurrying to Jesus. I pictured the risen Jesus eating the fish while His disciples gathered around.

Just listening to the Gospel story filled my heart with peace! I believe this is because I spent time with Jesus, who spreads peace wherever He goes.

Today, let Jesus’ peace visit you by reading or listening to His story.

Reflection

Which of the four Gospels will I start reading today so I can be more at peace and get to know Jesus better?

Prayer

Blessed Lord, Please give me the courage, strength, and wisdom to read and take to heart the words of Jesus so I can have peace in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
