“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.“
When we listen to the news on television or see the headlines spread across the screen of our laptops and tablets, it’s easy to get discouraged and scared.
It is easy to worry about whether or not our children and grandchildren will be safe at school. These same fears can make us suspicious of anyone we don’t know. And the constant threat of being scammed, stalked, or having our identity stolen causes us to be distrustful and even a bit paranoid of anything new and different.
To some extent we can justifiably label our behavior as “prudent.”
We do need to be cautious. But we cannot let our caution become a substitute for faith. In other words, when we let fear and caution in the driver’s seat of our lives instead of God, we do two things: 1: we make Him smaller than He really is, and 2: we cheat ourselves out of seeing and experiencing His mighty power and even-mightier love.
I know it’s not always easy to see God through all the violence and hate permeating society, but I also know God is here. He is a loving Father who will never desert His faithful, trusting children.
So, don’t be afraid to stand firmly, audibly, and visually for Him.
I love You.
I want to be strong and courageous for You.
Please give me the wisdom, courage, and opportunities to do so.
In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
