Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.”
My four year-old granddaughter, Laney, loves to play hide-n-seek. She’s really good at it, too. She finds some great hiding places and stays as still as a statue waiting to outwit the seeker.
One day when she and her mom were playing the game, Laney hid under the couch.
Her mom looked and looked but couldn’t find her. She started calling Laney’s name but Laney didn’t budge.
Soon, panic set in. Had Laney gone outside and something happened to her? Had she hidden someplace she shouldn’t have and was suffocating?
Laney could hear the panic in her momma’s voice, so she wiggled her way out and said, “Don’t worry Mommy, I know where I am.”
Sobbing with relief, her mother held Laney close. “From now on,” she said, “when Mommy calls, Laney needs to come out right away because I don’t ever want to feel that way again.”
Jesus knows how Laney’s mother felt that day.
He feels that way about every person who doesn’t know the way to eternity in heaven. He worries that the lost ones won’t respond to His voice in time to be saved. But the great news is that He doesn’t have to feel this way about you when you follow Him in truth, obeying Him in all things.
How does Jesus give guidance to those who are lost? How does Jesus guide me?
Dear Jesus, Thank You for being the light that leads to eternity. I don’t want to hide from You. Help me follow You in all things; giving You joy, not sadness. In Your name I pray, Amen.
