Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.”
My four year-old granddaughter, Laney, loves to play hide-n-seek. And she’s really good at it, too. She come up with some great hiding places, but she stays as still as a statue waiting to outwit the seeker.
One day she and my daughter (her mom) were playing the game in the house. Laney was the hider and positioned herself under the couch. I know, go figure!
Anyway, my daughter looked and looked but couldn’t find her. Next she started calling Laney’s name but Laney didn’t budge. After a while my daughter started to panic. Had Laney gone outside and something happened to her? Had she hidden someplace she shouldn’t have and was suffocating? My daughter was now frantically and tearfully calling Laney’s name. Laney could hear the panic in her momma’s voice, so she wiggled her way out from under the couch, propped herself up on her elbows and said, “Don’t worry Mommy, I know where I am.”
My daughter started sobbing in relief, pulled Laney to her and held her close. She told Laney that from now on when Mommy called her she needed to come out right away because she (my daughter) never wanted to feel the way she’d just felt ever again.
Jesus knows just how my daughter felt that day. He knows because He feels that way about every single person who doesn’t know the way to eternity in heaven. But the great news is, is that He doesn’t have to feel this way about you when you follow Him in truth; obeying Him in all things.
Let Jesus be the light that exposes your hiding place so that He never has to feel frightened for your soul again.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being the light that leads to eternity. Help me follow You in all things; giving You joy, not sadness. In Your name, I pray, amen.
