Jesus the Rock

by Pastor Ken and Joyverse

Psalm 18:2

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

Rock. Fortress. Deliverer. Refuge. Tower. Salvation.

In a single sentence, the Psalmist presents a word picture of God that repeatedly paints Him in the strongest earthly terms.

God is the place to run when the enemy attacks.

He is our rock — the foundation of our world. Unflinching. Unchanging.

He delivers us from danger. He provides a safe place that is fortified against enemy attacks. In Him, we find safety, respite, rest, and salvation.

We live in a world that is constantly changing, but we worship a God who never changes.

That means we can be comforted in the knowledge that Jesus is the rock that cannot be moved: “I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6 NKJV).

When you face tough times, difficult situations, unfair treatment, or broken relationships, remember that some things never change — things like the love you feel in your heart and God’s love for you.

So do not worry about life’s inevitable challenges. Instead, focus your energies on Jesus. He is unchanging in the midst of change. He is Jesus Christ — the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Reflection

What can I do when I face tough times and difficult situations? How can I make Jesus my rock?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Please continue to work in my life. Show me the way to contentment and peace in You, no matter what is going on around me. Help me to remember that You are my rock, my fortress, and my salvation. Thank You for saving me. In Your name I pray, Amen.
