I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
I could not walk anymore because of the pain in my right toe.
My slim daughter-in-law said, “Stand on a park bench, please!”
So, in the middle of Central Park in New York City, I stood on a park bench.
Surprisingly, she carried me “piggyback!” After a few steps, her husband, my younger son, carried me on his back for many steps more.
It was such a great feeling: it was the first time that anybody piggybacked me.
It was so wonderful to be on the receiving end of a little care given here and there from my sons and a daughter-in-law. During our annual family reunion, I felt greatly honored as their father.
I know our children love my wife and me. They gifted us with nice clothes, shoes, and things for an upcoming vacation. They took us in restaurants to taste various delicious meals that we would not have otherwise had the chance to eat.
Every day I thank God for our children and ask Him to bless them abundantly as He promised in the fifth commandment.
Today, why not call the father figures in your life and say “Thank you.”
Or, if possible, take your dad for a piggyback ride! He will feel honored.
Why did God promise to give a long life when children honor their parents? What can I do to honor my father today?
Heavenly Father, Help me to honor my father on earth. Help me to be a respectful, loving child both to him and to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
