Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.
In Russia, factories often had lecture halls where talks were given on the benefits of communism.
A prominent lecturer came to speak in St. Petersburg. The Orthodox Church had a custom in which the priest would say “Christ is risen!” and the audience would respond “Risen indeed!” But this lecturer made it plain that anyone who was a Christian instead of a communist was stupid.
At the end of his talk, he asked if there were any questions. A bent-over elderly gentleman slowly came to the front and up onto the platform.
“What do you have to say, old man?” asked the lecturer.
Unafraid, the man called out in a loud voice, “Christ is risen!”
The audience responded, “Risen indeed!”
He repeated his declaration, and so did the audience. Again and again they continued until it swelled to a loud chant, at which point the lecturer bowed his head in humiliation and left the hall.
No matter our age, our physical condition, our status in society, we all have the privilege of proclaiming Christ. Even as we enter the “winter” of life, crowned by gray hairs, we can testify that Christ came, died, and rose so that we can, too!
Do you wonder how best to share your faith? Remember that God reads each heart. When you get the chance to say a word on His behalf, ask Him to speak through you.
What is my mission? What gift has God given me that I can use to share Him with others?
Dear Lord, make me an effective witness at any age. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
