When Tommy went forward after chapel one night at church camp, he was a twelve-year-old boy dealing with low self-esteem, wishing he had a dad who wasn’t addicted to painkillers, wanting more than anything for God to hear his prayers and give him a family who would love him back and help him grow in his faith.

Fast-forward a few years. Tommy was now an angry teenager whose abusive father had left them in extreme poverty. Seeking acceptance from a group of “friends,” he fell into a cycle of drugs and drinking until one night his former youth leader decided she wasn’t going to let Tommy throw his life away. The conversation was difficult, but it was what Tommy needed. He needed to know someone believed in him… that someone was in his corner.

Fast-forward a few more years to today. Tommy is an officer in the military, engaged to an amazing Christian girl, and living his life showing and telling everyone he meets how amazing the love of Jesus really is.

Tommy is proof that Jesus takes each of us, no matter who we are, where we’re at, or what we’ve done. None of that matters. All that matters to Jesus is that you want to become more like Him, that you are willing to go from who you are now to who you are meant to be.
