Why Do We Make It So Difficult?

by Darla Noble

Deuteronomy 28:1

It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to the LORD your God’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.

Today’s verse is a promise from God that leaves no room for doubt or question about what He wants from us.

If we are diligent in our obedience, God will “set us high above….” In other words, if we faithfully follow all His commands, we can’t even begin to imagine the blessings He will send our way. It’s true. God says so, and God never says anything He does not mean. He never makes a promise He does not keep.

So why, then, do we make it so difficult for God and for ourselves? Why do we deprive ourselves of God’s abundant blessings that He promises to give in order to go after things that a) we aren’t guaranteed to get, and b) don’t last?

Do you make it difficult for God to be fully God in your life? How can you begin — today — to listen even more diligently to His words of wisdom?

Reflection

What do I need to remove from my life to make more room for God?

Prayer

Dear God, Open my heart and mind to be more obedient and trusting. Remind me every day that You are all I need. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
