Pigs Shouldn’t Build Houses

by Darla Noble

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

You know the story of the three little pigs, don’t you? If so, you know that when the first two pigs built their houses, they had their minds on other things. They weren’t concerned about the strength or durability of construction. They just wanted to get it done. If you know the story you also know what happened to those two pigs. They became a couple of lip-smacking good meals for the big bad wolf.

Today’s verse is warning us against being like those two pigs; taking our spiritual growth for granted. We cannot build a life on the foundation of Jesus Christ haphazardly and without attention to detail.

We can’t accept Christ as Savior and then live life on our own terms. Accepting Jesus as your Savior isn’t meant to be ‘fire insurance’, a good deed, the right thing to do, or something you do to make your grandma happy.

No, it is the act that says you want God to be LORD of your life; leading you in all things and in all ways.

It is putting God in charge of your life and living according to His standards—not yours.

God is the ultimate ‘house’ builder. Won’t you let Him build yours?

Pray
God, make my life strong. Make the walls of my heart, soul, and mind strong to withstand the devil and his relentless attacks on my life. In Jesus’ powerful Name who came on earth to destroy the devil (1 John 3:8), I pray, Amen.
