Juggling school and work should be considered an art form.

In my personal juggle, an additional ball was thrown into the mix: the real danger of being mugged at the end of the day. After a long day at work and longer night at school, the shortest route home was along the curve of the college’s race track.

The danger was real. Muggers lined the street, lurking in its shadows whenever no game was scheduled and all lights were off. While struggling for a solution, I considered abandoning higher education or working only part-time.

Anyone who offered to accompany me could not prevent the danger, but included themselves in it.

Then it occurred to me to ask God for protection.

After all, He promised in today’s verse that He Himself goes before me. He will be with me. He will not fail me nor forsake me.

My prayer switched to a specific request for the protective presence of mighty angels to surround me at every step. I envisioned the heavy metal weights hemmed in at the bottom of my Mom’s drapes. I longed to be so enfolded in the protection of God’s care.

I finished my college years and heard of others falling prey to the muggers along that street, but praise God, my invisible Guard brought me safely through. He’ll do the same for you.
