“Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the emissaries, “Brothers, what shall we do?” ”Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain. Many have died trying to reach the top. Some die because a rescue by helicopter is nearly impossible.
Why? Because a helicopter is kept afloat by the air’s density and up that high, the air is too thin. Some helicopters have made it, but the only safe way to the top of Everest is from the bottom.
Those hearing Peter’s words were at the bottom. They were cut to the heart that they had played some part in Jesus’ death. They finally recognized Jesus as Lord and were motived to turn from their sin.
We’d love to reach Jesus with a helicopter. But, the only path to recognizing Jesus as Lord is to place yourself at the bottom. To understand that without God, you’re powerless to climb even the smallest mountain.
Have you ever been at the bottom, where you felt powerless in what to do next? It’s there where your journey to the top can begin.
