Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
Have you ever put something off until the last minute?
I have. I even put off finishing making a baby blanket for my youngest granddaughter. Instead of having it ready for the shower, I told myself I would have it done by the time she was born.
I’ve got two weeks to finish that blanket.
Procrastinating may work when lives don’t hang in the balance of whether or not you finish a task, but it is the last thing you want to do when it comes to seeking the Lord.
When we procrastinate, we miss opportunities to enjoy God’s blessings. We miss out on serving God. We fail to share the Good News of salvation with those who are lost. Procrastination limits our ability to be the hands, feet, eyes, and ears of Jesus. When we procrastinate, we risk losing the experience of heaven for all eternity.
“Break up your fallow (uncultivated, unseeded) ground,” Hosea says. “It is time to seek the Lord.”
No more procrastinating. No more losing out on God’s blessings. It is time to break up the areas of your life that aren’t producing anything worthwhile. Seek the Lord. It is time.
What “fallow ground” in my life needs breaking up? What habit do I need to get rid of to make me more Christ-like?
Dear Lord, Help me to realize that time is short. I want to make the most of the time You have allotted me. Please help me break up the areas of my life where nothing is planted, where nothing useful grows. May I never procrastinate when seeking Your righteousness. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
