Bible verses about
Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, part of the Triune God Himself, lives in my heart when I believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. God the Father is the source of all blessing. Jesus the Son is the channel of all blessing. It is through the Holy Spirit at work in me that all truth becomes living and operative in my life.

The Holy Spirit is my Comforter, my Counselor, my Spirit of Truth. Praise God, this precious divine gift, sent by Jesus Himself, is promised to anyone who asks (Luke 11:13).

The Holy Spirit lives in me, a heavenly gift Jesus gave to me

John 14:16-17

I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive, for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

The Holy Spirit is with me everywhere

Psalm 139:7-8

Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there!

If Christ is in me, I am full of His Spirit

Romans 8:9-11

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

The Holy Spirit was present and active at creation

Genesis 1:2

The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God’s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.

When I receive the Holy Spirit, I am born again

John 3:5-7

Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom. That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’”

The Holy Spirit reveals the deepest things of God to me

1 Corinthians 2:9-10

But as it is written, “Things which an eye didn’t see, and an ear didn’t hear, which didn’t enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him.” But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

The Holy Spirit will guide me into truth

John 16:12-15

I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you. All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.

The Holy Spirit is a good gift from God

Luke 11:13

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

The Holy Spirit is a witness to the life and saving power of Jesus

Acts 5:30-32

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree. God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins. We are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

Lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God; the Holy Spirit is divine

Acts 5:3-4

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land? While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”

The Holy Spirit helps me worship

The Holy Spirit helps with my prayers

Romans 8:26-27

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.
