For generations, the kingdom of Judah had been in Babylonian captivity. When the Persian king Cyrus gave them their freedom (see Ezra 1), it seemed impossible that they could actually go home, rebuild the temple, and restart their nation.

They returned to their hometown filled with doubt, not quite knowing where or how to start over.

But God, always ready and willing to help us in our time of need, gave them a vision telling them not to worry. In the words of today’s text, He told them it could be done — not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit.

When you are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated because you don’t feel you have the power, energy, or resources to deal with your situation, don’t worry about it. God promises us that He will accomplish all necessary tasks through the Holy Spirit if we will just let Him do so.

Even if you aren’t currently resting in God’s love and grace, don’t worry. Instead, if you will repent, accept Jesus’ sacrifice in your place, and completely depend on God’s power through the Holy Spirit, you can rebuild God’s “temple” in your heart.
