Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.
Consistent spiritual growth is essential for your relationship with God.
Without growth, stagnation occurs. In the same way that plants and children grow consistently, showing noticeable progress, each new day offers a new opportunity to grow consistently in your knowledge of God and your commitment to Him.
Obedience and faith in Jesus lead to this consistent growth. They remove such earthly obstacles as age, money, level of education, and physical appearance and abilities.
When you develop the habit of doing at least one small thing to grow your spiritual life each day, your growth is deliberate and consistent. So:
Begin each day by reading the Bible.
Make sure you get adequate exposure to things like joy, love, and hope.
Set aside one day each week as a Sabbath (day of rest) to be quiet, meditative, and spiritually fed.
Remember: “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength” (Phil 4:13).
Pray for spiritual growth, follow where Jesus leads, and obey Him.
What am I doing to be more spiritually mature? What am I doing to grow a little every day?
Jesus, my dearest Friend, I want to spend today and every day with You. Please teach me Your will. Help me grow in knowledge and wisdom. Please put Your hand on me to slow me down so that I will take a weekly Sabbath, spending more time in restful communion with You. Amen.
