He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
The spine supports the body.
It is the route for communicating messages to travel to and from the brain. It is also the hardy infrastructure that enables us to stand upright. Without it, we’d be lower than four-legged creatures!
Three percent of the world’s population suffers from a curving spine, or scoliosis.
The problem with scoliosis isn’t aesthetics, it’s that the condition leads other body parts astray, pushing them into unnatural positions, causing back pain, muscle weakness, difficulty breathing, and in extreme cases, even heart failure.
Most scoliosis has no discernible cause, but it can be stopped. Proper back braces can halt a bending spine and all the trouble that follows it.
We, like spines, are the support beams in our body of influence. We maintain a part of the balance for other people’s lives. When we’re straight and in line with God’s plan, those who depend on us get the leadership, protection, advice, prayer, attentiveness, perspective, positive atmosphere, solutions, affection, or encouragement they need from us. When we bend, when we make crooked plans, wayward decisions, and refuse to be corrected, the bodies that depend on us suffer.
We are God’s favorite creation. As wonderful as four-legged creatures are, we weren’t made to act like them. We’ve got to look to Jesus and straighten up.
What “body” do I affect? How do I re-center myself when I start to bend?
Dear Lord, Please keep me from being tempted to bend my ethics and my morals. Remind me that those near me need me to keep my eyes on You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
