As the days of Noah were, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ship, and they didn’t know until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Noah built an ark and warned people of the impending rain that would flood the earth, in spite of the fact that it had never rained before… ever.
Noah tried, but no one would listen. Instead, they continued living in such a way that broke God’s heart (Genesis 6).
Neither the story of Noah, nor its review in today’s verse, teach that it is wrong to eat, drink, or marry. Instead, they underscore the point that we should not focus on such things if we’re going to disregard the fact that we were made by God to bring glory and honor to Him.
Nowadays, many people, just like the people in Noah’s time, have no regard for Jesus and are not interested in being ready when He comes in His glory. Please don’t be one of those people! Jesus’ warning is clear: nothing is more important than our relationship with God.
My prayer for you, and for all believers, is that we may live humbly, faithfully, and with a desire to please God so we may experience the joys of God’s promises and blessings.
How can I make certain that God takes top priority in my life?
Dear God, Please let nothing come between You and me. Help me evaluate my priorities and put You first in all things. I don’t want to be taken by surprise; please help me to faithfully watch and wait for Christ’s coming. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
