One of my favorite verses in the Old Testament book of Esther is Esther 4:14 (“Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”).

These words of Mordecai are spoken to remind and challenge the young queen that God put her in her position for a purpose, and that purpose could very well be to save the entire Jewish nation. (FYI: It was.)

In some ways, Palm Sunday, as recorded in Luke 19, is Jesus’s “Mordecai moment.”

Hearing the praises of the people as He rode into Jerusalem, seeing them lay their coats and palm branches on the dusty road as a show of respect and honor couldn’t help but remind Jesus that He had come for such a time as this — to be recognized as the “Son of David” and as the one who had come “in the name of the Lord.”

Sadly, people’s attitudes quickly shifted. But experiencing this acknowledgment and acceptance of His Lordship surely had to lift His spirits. It had to give Jesus a bit of blessed assurance that His impending death would not be for anything.

Jesus is the King of Kings. Savior. Redeemer. Let us give Him the glory this day and every day!
