On High Alert

Isaiah 42:13
The LORD will go out like a mighty man. He will stir up zeal like a man of war. He will raise a war cry. Yes, he will shout aloud. He will triumph over his enemies.
Have you ever been in love? God has. In fact, He still is.
The intensity of that thought jars me. The fact that the One who Himself IS love has chosen to make me the focus of that love is almost overwhelming!
I remember how my fiancé was so enthusiastic in his love for me that he was defensively on high alert against anything he thought might be a threat to our future.
So it is with God, as Isaiah 42:13 proves.
Does my devotion to Him exhibit similar passion? I cannot say that I can ever match God’s love for me but I can attempt to mirror it.
Other verses in Isaiah 42 suggest how to show my enthusiasm. I can “sing to the LORD a new song” (Isaiah 42:10). No matter where I am, I can raise my voice and sing, shouting God’s praises even from mountaintops (Isaiah 42:11)!
I can also scan the length and breadth of my thoughts, my associates — even what I do for entertainment — on high alert for anyone or anything that steals my time, attention or affection from the God who loves me.
Reflection
How can I foster a head-over-heels, all-in love relationship with God?
Prayer
Holy God, I want to be in an authentic, vibrant love relationship with You. Show me how to be as eager for communion with You as You are for communion with me. May my zeal for You never wane. In Jesus’ dear name I pray, Amen.
