I don’t understand sports very well, but enjoy watching them.

I may not know all the rules, statistics, or players, but I do know how points are scored. I may not be familiar with the minutiae of the game, but I understand seeing a ball fly out of the park, or dunked into the basket, or sail into a net. I know the satisfaction of working for a goal and reaching it.

While cheering my team on, I keep a careful eye on the player who has the responsibility to keep the other team from scoring: the defense.

Their role is to do whatever it takes to prevent the other team from reaching their goal. I don’t need to know the names of the various positions to know that when they do their jobs well, nothing gets past them.

Similarly, as I consider John 14:6, I realize that like the soccer, football, or basketball player who must follow the rules to keep a ball from getting past them, Jesus will not allow me to use any devious method of my choosing or follow any deceptive belief that appeals to me to score points with the Father. He successfully blocks any other attempts as being foul moves.

Only His way, His truth, and His life get me through to my goal.
